Young athletes took to the court on 20 April as the Adelaide Lightning partnered with Complete Athlete Project (CAP) and Basketball South Australia’s Female Participation Strategy (FPS) to deliver an exciting School Holiday Clinic focused on development, confidence, and growing the women’s game.
Held at the South Australian State Basketball Centre, the clinic brought together young players from across the basketball community for a day of skill development, competition, and learning led by an experienced coaching team.
Participants had the opportunity to learn from Adelaide Lightning players Jordyn Freer and Maddy Freer, alongside 3x3 Basketball Olympian Lauren Mansfield, supported by a strong group of CAP coaches who helped deliver sessions throughout the day.
The clinic featured a range of activities including skill development drills, shooting work, game play, competitions, and basketball education designed to challenge players while creating a positive, engaging, and supportive environment.
Beyond the on-court sessions, the clinic provided young athletes with the chance to connect with experienced players, coaches, and role models, gaining valuable insight into high-level basketball while building confidence in their own game.
The collaboration between Adelaide Lightning, CAP, and FPS reflects a shared commitment to increasing female participation, strengthening development opportunities, and supporting the next generation of basketball players in South Australia.
Having current professional athletes, an Olympian, and experienced development coaches actively involved throughout the clinic created a unique experience for participants, allowing players to ask questions, improve their skills, and learn directly from leaders within the sport.
The Adelaide Lightning would like to thank CAP, FPS, the coaching staff, and everyone involved in helping deliver a successful clinic.
Programs like these continue to play an important role in growing the game, strengthening community connections, and creating accessible opportunities for young athletes to develop both on and off the court.
We look forward to continuing to work alongside partners who share our commitment to supporting female participation, player development, and the future of basketball across South Australia.
