The Adelaide Lightning are proud to announce the appointment of basketball icon, two-time Olympian and former Opals Captain, Tess Madgen, as General Manager of Basketball. The South Australian native and two-time World Cup medallist joined the Lightning in 2025 as aspecial advisor, and will now expand into this newly created leadership role within the club ahead of free agency and the WNBL 26/27 season.
“I’m so excited to join the Adelaide Lightning as General Manager of Basketball. I grew up supporting the Lightning when they were winning championships. I’m proud that we have the opportunity for us to go back to our roots, set our vision and do the work to win a championship, that’s what we’re here to do.”

CEO of the Adelaide Lightning, Melanie MacGillivray said Tess’ appointment reflects the momentum building ahead of the next WNBL season.
“Tess is a deeply respected athlete, coach and leader, and we’re incredibly proud she is joining us in this capacity. Tess is deeply connected across the community and her passion for inspiring the next generation of athletes and kids playing basketball is such a wonderful addition to the club.”

The news follows the announcement of Aja Parham-Ammar securing a two-year deal with the club as Head Coach.
On partnering with Aja, Madgen said, “Aja has a wonderful emphasis on skill development and we’re completely aligned on building confidence and capability. I can’t wait to see what she can do building the team ready for next season.”
