2 September 2025, Adelaide – The Adelaide Lightning are thrilled to announce the signing of development players Jordy Freer and Ruby Porter, joining Kerryn Mitchell’s 2025/26 roster.
Both players have had a great NBL1 season, with Jordyn averaging 15.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season in NBL1, while Ruby averaged 14.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Head Coach Kerryn Mitchell says that the players will bring an extra spark to the team;
“I’m excited to bring the two superstars to the team. They have smashed their NBL1 seasons. Bringing South Australian athletes to the team is something we are extra proud of.”
“I’m really excited to bring in Jordy as one of our Development Players for the season. She was a standout at our Open Run; she’s a great athlete, super physical on defence and we believe she will be a great representative for Adelaide.”
Ruby was recently acknowledged as NBL1 West Grand Final MVP after dropping 17 points, including 5 three-pointers.
“Ruby is a South Australian girl through and through, represented SA all through juniors and was a stand-out player. We first worked together in 2019 when we both found ourselves on an NBA Academy trip to Tampa, Florida. You instantly feel at ease with Ruby, she has an outgoing and infectious personality and is right at home in a team environment, bringing that vocal energy that is so vital for success.”
“Ruby is a knockdown shooter, she can really light it up! I’m very much looking forward to working with Ruby again.”
“They’re both hungry and I’m excited to work with them in the WNBL this season,” Mitchell said.
Jordyn Freer says that the Adelaide Lightning has a special place in her heart, due to her sister and Mother being involved with the club;
“I’m super excited to join the Adelaide Lightning as a DP this season. Being a part of a WNBL squad has been a goal of mine for a while now and it’s extra special that it gets to be at home in Adelaide”
“I’m looking forward to developing my game, learning from the players and coaches, and contributing wherever I can. I’m really grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started.” Freer said.
Ruby joins the club hot off claiming the NBL1 West championship with her team the Cockburn Cougars:
“I’m super excited to work with Kerryn and the team this upcoming season. She has built a great roster and I can’t wait to step on court with the girls very soon.”
Newly appointed CEO Melanie MacGillivray says that the development players are an exciting edition to the team;
“This is an exciting move in bringing on two young and energetic players from South Australia. Engaging with the Adelaide and South Australian community is a top priority for us this season and I have no doubt they will be great ambassadors to inspire the next generation of basketball players in South Australia”.
