The Adelaide Lightning have continued to strengthen their team with the appointment of Cherie Cordoba as Assistant Coach and Marina Wood (Moff) as Team Manager ahead of the 2025/26 WNBL season.

Cherie brings a wealth of national and international experience to the Lightning coaching team.

Marina, a former Opal and two-time Olympian, is a Lightning alumni and respected leader in the South Australian basketball landscape, steps in as team manager, supporting players and coaches in delivering a professional and high-performance program.

Head Coach Kerryn Mitchell said the additions further round out a coaching and support team designed to combine elite playing and coaching experience with strong community engagement and outreach.

“Cherie’s background as an athlete at the highest level combined with her passion for player growth, makes her an incredible addition to our team. We are close friends, colleagues and I have no doubt she will add immense value to our program.”

“Marina has been a trusted leader in the South Australian basketball community for years, and her ability to connect with people and bring everything together behind the scenes is invaluable for a club like ours.”

Cherie said she was thrilled to join the Lightning in her new role.

“I’m so excited and proud to work with Kerryn and the team this season. The Lightning have such a strong legacy in the WNBL, and I look forward to bringing my experience to support our players reach their full potential on and off the court.”

Team Manager Marina Wood said she was proud to be stepping into the role in her hometown and giving back to the team she played for.

“Basketball has given me so much, and being part of the Lightning in this role is a real honour. It’s not often you get the opportunity to contribute back to a force that shaped who you are and now supporting our players, staff and community is a privilege.”

Mitchell said these stellar appointments complete our off-court lineup ahead of the upcoming season.

“We’re building a program with a strong local community presence. One that we know South Australians will be proud of. Both Cherie and Marina embody our Lightning energy and are a true force in every sense of the word.” Mitchell said.

The Adelaide Lightning tip off their WNBL 2025/26 season with the first home game slated for Sunday 19 October against Perth.
