Pride Round brought big energy to the Spark House, and while the result didn’t fall Adelaide’s way, the Lightning had this one right in the balance late.
Canberra got the jump early, edging the opening term 15–11, before stretching the margin to 36–24 at the half. Adelaide kept grinding though, staying connected with defensive pressure and effort plays.
The third quarter brought a spark — and Hungry Jacks Cheeseburgers — courtesy of the Caps’ Zitina Aokuso, as the Lightning began to build momentum. That came despite a tough whistle, with Adelaide making just five trips to the foul line compared to Canberra’s 13.
The fight really showed in the last. Captain Steph Talbot buried a huge three to bring the Lightning within seven — the closest it had been since the second quarter. Canberra’s defence lifted again, forcing turnovers, but Adelaide kept coming.
Charlotte Whittaker made some big plays at key moments, and when Ashlee Strawbridge knocked down a clutch three to cut the margin to four with under a minute to play, the Spark House erupted.
The Capitals stayed composed down the stretch and found the answers late, closing out the contest 61–67.
The Spark House was electric once again, with over 1,500 Lightning fans cheering their team right to the final siren.
The Lightning now turn their attention to a big road challenge, taking on the Geelong Venom this Saturday. With the ladder tight at the bottom, Adelaide will be playing with real purpose — chasing a win that could see them move off the foot of the table and build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
